Precision Side Cutters for Demanding Cutting Tasks

Built for precision in electronics and fine mechanics: Our EREM side cutters and pointed cutters are developed and manufactured in Switzerland to deliver outstanding quality where precise work matters most. You can see the difference in every detail, from the hand-ground cutting edges and the build quality to their exceptional durability. For decades, they have been standard equipment in electronics manufacturing, medical technology and microelectronics. With over 100 models across five series, our range covers everything from micro side cutters for ultra-fine circuit traces to maxi cutters for thicker wires. Induction-Hardened Cutting Edges for Lasting Sharpness

The cutting edges of our EREM side cutters are induction-hardened to over 63 HRC on the Rockwell scale, then hand-ground to a fine finish. This combination of machine hardening and manual precision work produces a cut quality that purely machine-based manufacturing simply cannot match. Three cut types cover different requirements: The semi-flush cut leaves a minimal burr but keeps the cutting edge stable for longer. The flush cut trims level with the surface, leaving no visible burr. The super full-flush cut is completely burr-free, delivering a perfectly flat cut. The right cut type depends on the wire material and the surface quality you need. The patented Magic Spring™ technology takes things further: Its integrated return spring withstands over one million closing cycles at consistent spring force. When repetitive production work demands thousands of cuts per day, it significantly reduces the effort required and helps prevent early hand fatigue.

ESD-Safe Side Cutters for Sensitive Electronics

Anyone who works on PCBs and SMD components knows the risk: Even a minor electrostatic discharge can destroy components. Our EREM range therefore uses dissipative grip materials that safely discharge static electricity before it reaches the component.

Different applications call for different series. The 600 Micro series, which includes the 632N among other models, is designed for the most delicate work on thin wires. The 2400 MagicSense series, with cutters such as the 2422E, combines robustness, visibility and accessibility, and its ergonomic design helps prevent hand fatigue. For larger cross-sections, the 800 Maxi series provides the leverage needed, and that includes our 886E side cutters. All three options are ESD-safe, making them suitable for microelectronics, medical technology and any workstation where ESD protection is mandatory.

Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What is the difference between a flush cut and a semi-flush cut?

With a flush cut, virtually no burr remains on the workpiece; with a semi-flush cut, a minimal residue is left. The difference matters in practice: Choose flush when the cut surface needs to be smooth, for example at visible solder joints or inside tight enclosures. Semi-flush is the better choice for harder wires, because the cutting edge stays more stable and lasts longer.

  2. Why do I need an ESD-safe side cutter?

Electrostatic discharge damages electronic components, often without leaving immediately visible traces. The defect sometimes only shows up weeks later during operation. Our EREM side cutters are ESD-safe and feature dissipative grips that reliably discharge static build-up. In ESD-protected areas (EPAs), they are generally mandatory.

  3. Which EREM side cutter is suitable for medical technology?

Our range includes a variety of side cutters that meet the high standards for precision, surface cleanliness and repeatability that medical technology demands. For a specific recommendation, we suggest contacting your Weller specialist adviser, who can identify the right series for your application.

  4. How long do Weller EREM side cutters last?

Our induction-hardened cutting edges and the Magic Spring™ return spring are built for long service life, though exact durability naturally depends on usage. For maximum tool life, we recommend only using the side cutters within the specified wire diameter range and storing them in a dry environment.
