The Smart RT soldering irons WXMPS MS and WXUPS MS are not compatible with previous-generation Weller WX stations, specifically the WX1, WX2, WXA2, WXD2 and WXR3. These systems are based on a different technology platform and do not support the advanced smart features or the electronic interface of WXsmart tools. For these soldering stations we recommend WXPP MS, WXMP MS and WXUP MS soldering irons.

Yes, the Smart RT soldering irons (WXMPS MS and WXUPS MS) are designed according to MS (Military Standard)requirements. This includes an electrically isolated design with separation between the heating element and ground potential, which is essential for applications with high reliability standards, such as those specified in MIL-STD-2000. The design ensures controlled grounding conditions and minimizes unwanted leakage currents at the solder joint, providing enhanced protection for sensitive electronic components. As with all MS systems, proper performance and compliance are only guaranteed when the tweezers are used together with the corresponding MS-compatible system components.

The Smart RT soldering irons WXMPS MS and WXUPS MS utilize Weller’s Active Tip Heating Technology. In this design, the heating element is integrated directly into the tip, enabling fast heat-up times and highly precise temperature control.

Compared to conventional heating systems, this technology minimizes thermal losses and ensures efficient heat transfer directly at the solder joint, even under demanding conditions or high thermal loads. This results in stable process performance and improved control, especially when working on sensitive electronic assemblies.

Active Tip Heating Technology is also used in other Weller soldering tools, such as RT-based soldering irons like WXPP MS, WXMP MS, WXUP MS or WMRP and WTMP MS, which follow the same principle of integrating the heating element into the tip to achieve maximum performance.

However, it is important to note that tools using the same heating technology are not necessarily interchangeable or compatible with each other. Compatibility depends on the specific station platform, interface, and system design (e.g. WXsmart vs. previous WX generations), not solely on the heating principle.

The Smart RT soldering irons WXMPS MS and WXUPS MS are designed for the use with Smart RT soldering tips. The WXMPS MS is compatible with RTPS MS and RTMS MS soldering tips. RTPS tips are designed for nano applications, while RTMS tips are used for micro applications. The WXUPS MS is compatible with RTUS MS soldering tips, which are designed for ultra applications. All these tip families are part of the MS (Military Standard) system and feature an electrically isolated design.
